People are still raging about Trump’s decision to declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. There have been reactions to this from almost everybody. We have Muslim countries condemning it, we have Benjamin Netanyahu praising it and we have a lot of other nations around the world expressing their concern about it, whatever the fuck that means in their bland diplomatic lingo… We can definitely say this decision is a very controversial one and although many of us were expecting it, it still managed to take the world by storm. It will remain one of the biggest moments of Trump’s presidency and it will definitely be one that will shape the entire Middle East for generations to come.
But I am not here to talk about the decision in itself. It may be good, it may be bad, there are a lot of people who are maybe more capable than me to analyze it and to ponder over the effects it will have on the region. This is not the point of this article so I will just say that it is a decision, it is done and we now have to live with it and accept any consequences that will come from it. So, going past the actual value of the decision, I want to talk here about why did Trump it and why, in my mind, this says a lot about him as a person.
A promise is a promise. Sadly, in today’s world, there are very few of us that still consider promises important. Unfortunately, most people make promises that they can’t keep or, even more infuriating, that they don’t even want to try to keep. This is why we should appreciate more the people that try to keep their word and to actually do what they said they will do. I know, I know, but it’s wrong you’ll say… That does not matter! If you promise something and people expect it from you, you should do it, regardless if it’s good or bad.
You should think about the value of a promise before you make it. If you want to think about an action, do it, think about it, analyze it, turn it on all sides, meditate about every single aspect, but do that before you fucking promise to do the action. Think about a thing before committing yourself to it, because after you are committed you can’t and you should never back down. Stop finding excuses, they don’t work, stop acting like an innocent snowflake. Put your money where your mouth it and once you commit to a certain action, do it, regardless of how your opinion might have changed in the meantime.
Now don’t get me wrong, if something ACTUALLY CHANGES, as in new information becomes available, then yes, you can go back on a promise and explain to people that things are different now and you have come to a better decision, but if nothing major happens, keep your fucking word and do what you said you would do. I am tired of weak people that change their mind from day to day. If you say you will do something, DO IT! Or you will never be trusted again, you will never be a true leader again…
Trump made many campaign promises. People voted for him because they wanted him to do the things that he promised to do. End of discussion. It doesn’t matter if the things are good or bad, it doesn’t matter what anybody else says. He said he will do them, he has to do them, whatever it takes. That is what keeping a promise means. People voted for him to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and now he did it. That is what a real man looks like! Deal with it!
