Managing time better

The end of the year is getting closer and closer and, as per usual, we are all busy with the final preparations for the festive season. After we will fill up our bellies and exchange presents and have fun like the end of the world is coming, we will think about what we have accomplished in 2017 and of course we will set ourselves goals for 2018. A lot of goals, more then we could ever manage, goals that if we were to tackle completely would occupy all of our time. We like to commit to impossible things, and this year will not be any different.

But what if we could break this cycle of stupidity, what if this year we could set realistic goals that we will actually be able to fulfill? Wouldn’t that be a nice change of pace, wouldn’t that be something actually useful for ourselves as human beings? Everybody nodded yes at this point and I can understand why. We all feel floored sometime by all the different tasks that we have to perform, so it would be nice if in the New Year we would be able to tackle them better and apply ourselves more.

And I am here to tell you that it is possible, you can perform tasks better, you can do all the things that you want to do and still have time left over in order to have fun. There is only one thing that you have to do in order to achieve those goals, only one thing you have to focus on in order to completely change your life. You simply have to manage your time better. I know, it sounds like a cliché, but you have no idea how important your time is for you. If you want to be able to do everything you set your mind too, you have to manage the time that you have in a smart way, you have to make hard choices.

Because this is what time management boils down to. You have make choices, you have to decide what is more important for you. And first of all, you have to accept that you can’t do everything. Most people hate to think about that, because people like to believe they are gods. Well let me make it clear to you, you are not a god, you are not all powerful, and that means that you can never do everything that you want. If you want to manage your time and achieve your goals, you have to be willing to choose between those goals, you have to figure out what is the most important for you and you have, yes, to make sacrifices. This is the most important aspect of time management, you have to be willing to make sacrifices.

Not everything that you do has the same value and worth to you, and you have to think about it and rate your goals and your actions. You have to identify what is vital for your life and what is just you being a spoiled hipster. Life almost always ends up forcing you into those choices, but in 2018 it is time for you to take control and make those choices before they are inevitable. Always think that you have a gun pointed to your head and make choices under that pressure. Then you will realize what really matters.

And after you find out what you’re truly important goals are, act based on that, neglect the useless desires and prioritize those that are truly important for you. Be ruthless, don’t feel bad about it. You can’t do everything so you will have to make tough choices. Yes, some people around you may suffer, yes, you will sometimes feel regret. But in the end, when you draw the line, you will be better off, you will feel better about yourself and you will be contempt with what you managed to achieve. Let 2018 be the year in which you accept what your life is all about…
